William H. Pray affectionately known as Papa, Bill, or Billy passed away October 6, 2024 surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.  Bill was born November 7, 1944 in Boston, MA and raised in Roxbury.

Bill served two back to back tours in Vietnam as a member of the 82nd airborne paratrooper’s.  He was honorably discharged with injury.  Amongst the many medals earned in Vietnam, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart.

After Vietnam, Bill met the love of his life, Nancy (Doherty) Pray.  Their love and devotion to one another lasting his lifetime.  They made a life in Dedham, MA where Bill was a Dedham Fire Fighter. They moved to East Walpole in 2016 to be closer to family.  Bill’s pride and joy were his two daughters and four grandsons.  Bill was found on many a sports field, basketball court or school event over the years.  He was often heard bragging about “his boys” to anyone who would listen.  Bill will be remembered for his quick wit, wise cracks, flannel shirts, scali caps and love for his family.

Bill leaves behind his wife, Nancy.  As well as, his daughter, Danielle (Pray) Mahoney and her husband David of Walpole, his daughter Michelle (Pray) Weir and her husband Mark of Walpole.  He also leaves the lights of his life,  his four grandsons; Brendan Mahoney, Colin Mahoney, Christopher Weir and Shawn Weir.  Not to be forgotten, his love for his grand dog, Coco.  Bill was predeceased by his loving mother, Agnes (Irene) Lowry, his sister, RoseMarie Grenham, his brother, Donald Pray and his sister  Maureen Brown.

Bill spent the majority of his last days in hospitals where he was cared for by some of the best nurses in Boston and Needham.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.belifesaving.org.  An organization founded by one of Bill’s favorite nurses.
