Obituary


Mary T. Bates (Marshall) of Walpole, formerly of Hyde Park, passed peacefully on March 7th at the age of 86.  She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Bates and daughter of the late William and Gertrude Marshall.

She is survived by her son William Kafouse of Attleboro and daughter-in-law Susan Kafouse of Plainville. She was a devoted Grandma to Kimberly and Christopher, and loving Nana Mary to her great-grandsons Colin and Connor. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was a proud graduate of Girls’ Latin School. She lived in Walpole for over 40 years and was involved in multiple local organizations. She was an active member of the Norwood Senior Center and Blessed Sacrament Church. Together with her husband Richard, she co-founded the Walpole Food Pantry in 1993.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday morning from 9-10:30 at the Alexander F. Thomas & Sons Funeral Home, 45 Common Street, Walpole followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, Walpole at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be at Rural Cemetery in Walpole. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
