Mary (McSweeney) Adduci, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by her family. Born on December 31, 1929, in Boston, MA, Mary lived a fulfilling life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, a passion for education, and an unwavering spirit of kindness.
In 1947, Mary graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and soon after became the loving wife of George P. Adduci in 1948. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter until his passing in 2011. Mary's role as a devoted mother was evident in her nurturing of her cherished children: Theresa Gallagher and her husband Paul of South Easton, George P. Adduci Jr. and his partner Jane Lapointe of Lunenburg, Paul J. Adduci and his fiance Susan DeStefano of Roslindale, and Ellen Adduci of Norfolk.
Mary's professional life was characterized by her dedication to children with learning disabilities, serving as a paraprofessional/teachers assistant for Boston Public Schools for over two decades. Her gentle nature, humor and kind heart left a lasting impact on the many lives she touched through her work.
Throughout her life, Mary's interests brought joy not only to herself but also to those around her. She cherished moments spent reading, playing cards with her girlfriends, sitting at Hyannis Harbor with her late husband George watching the boats go by, travelling to New York City and taking long scenic rides. Mary's love for her family was ever-present as she relished in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A gracious host, she delighted in bringing everyone together, especially during the holidays.
Mary was the loving "Nana" to her grandchildren Brian, Tracey, Timothy, and Elizabeth, and great-grandmother to Aidan, Norah, Emmy, Michael, Jackie, Max, Delaney, and the late Bobby. Her warmth and affection were a beacon of light in their lives, and her legacy will continue to shine through them.
She was the cherished sister of the late Joseph McSweeney, Timothy McSweeney, Daniel McSweeney, Catherine Ryan, and Robert McSweeney. Mary's extended family included many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who will miss her deeply.
Mary's life was a testament to the words that best describe her: loving, kind, and gentle. She navigated life's challenges with grace and always had a comforting word for those in need. Her presence was a source of stability and love in the lives of all who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Mary, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. Her spirit, characterized by unwavering love and gentle kindness, will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Mary (McSweeney) Adduci's memory will be cherished, and her influence will endure for generations to come.
