Joseph Conforto Obituary

Joseph B. Conforto, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, in Walpole, Massachusetts. Joe was a devoted brother to Mario Conforto and his wife Rosemary of Plympton along with his sister, Maria Mansfield of Walpole; late brother, Vito Conforto of Dedham; and late sister, Rose Fulciniti of Palermiti, Italy where all the siblings grew up.

Born on November 16, 1947 in southern Italy, Joe was a cherished son of the late Joseph and Maria Conforto.  In his youth, Joe was an avid soccer player, traveling around his native region of Calabria for competitions.

His journey led him to America in 1961, where his parents and siblings made their new home in Readville on Chesterfield Street.  Like many immigrants, Joe embraced the new opportunities available to him, holding various jobs to help support his family.  Tending the family’s garden and playing pool became one of Joe’s favorite activities.  After work, he could often be found at his favorite pool hall in Cleary Square (now Ron’s ice cream shop).

Joe faced medical challenges that would forever change his life.  He was supported by his loving family, including his sister Maria who was a familiar face in the facilities that cared for him and a fierce advocate for the rights of the disabled.

Visiting hours to honor and celebrate Joe's life will be held on Sunday evening from 4-7 PM at the Alexander F. Thomas and Sons Funeral Home, located at 45 Common Street in Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Joe's memory on Monday morning at 10:30 at Blessed Sacrament Church, Walpole. Following the mass, Joe will be laid to rest at St. Francis Cemetery. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend and share in the remembrance of a life lived with kindness and grace.

As we bid farewell to Joe, we reflect on a life that, while no longer present in body, continues to inspire and guide us through the memories he leaves behind. Joseph B. Conforto will be deeply missed, yet forever remembered in the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we gather to honor his memory, let us find solace in the knowledge that he lived a life full of love. Rest in peace, Joe.
