John P. Collins, age 87, of Walpole, MA, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 15, 1938, John lived a life defined by dedication to his family, his country, and his work.

John was the beloved son of the late Charles and Margaret Collins of East Milton.  He was also the brother of George Collins of Hingham and Laurine Yates of Union, WV.

John was a graduate of Milton High School in Milton and later attended East Coast Aero Tech.  John also attended Northeastern University.   He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, an experience he carried with pride throughout his life.

John shared 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gert (Sigmund) Collins. Together they built a loving family that remained the center of his life. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at their summer home in Bridgton, ME, where many cherished memories were made over the years. He pursued his passion for boating and fishing here.  He was the devoted father of Mark Collins and his wife Kristen of Colchester, CT, Scott Collins and his wife Karen of Londonderry, NH, Kristin (Collins) Long and the late David Long of Dunstable, and Todd Collins and his wife Andrea of Walpole.

John enjoyed a successful career with Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge and later with Randolph Engineering in Randolph, where he was respected for his hard work, integrity, and commitment.

He was affectionately known as “Grand John” to his 12 grandchildren and great-grand child, Lauren, Andrew, Amy Collins, Katie (Collins) Toral and her husband Jon, Kira Collins, Jeffrey Barron, Robbie Long, Erika Long, Allison Long, Max Collins, Jack Collins, and Toby Collins, and great-grandfather to Brooklyn Toral. His family brought him immense pride and joy.

John will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet strength, sense of humor, and above all, the ultimate gentleman. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, hard work, and kindness that will continue through the many lives he has touched.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Stroke Care Center at Maine Medical Center for the exceptional care and kindness shown to John and his family.
