Jerome J. Goffredo, known affectionately to friends and family as Jerry, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on August 26, 1954, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jerry was a man whose laughter and kindness profoundly touched all who knew him.
Jerry was the beloved son of the late Angelo and Ida Goffredo. He cherished his family deeply and is survived by his siblings Joanne Deleconio and her late husband Dennis of Dedham, Karen Goffredo of Hyde Park, Joseph Goffredo and his wife Lorry of Dedham, Donna English and her husband Paul of Walpole, and predeceased by his sister Elaine Goffredo. A loving uncle, Jerry's spirit will live on through his nieces and nephews: Tara, Jennifer, Jessica, Carol, Amanda, Angela, Leah, Nicolas, Shannon, Joe-Joe, Sophia, and Jack, all of whom he supported unwaveringly at their sports games and life events.
Jerry was a proud graduate of Boston Latin High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Journalism from Suffolk University. His educational background laid the foundation for a life characterized by curiosity and a love for storytelling.
His love for sports and community spirit led him to a fulfilling career as a referee for youth sports, serving Dana Hall, Boston Public Schools, Boston Athletic Clubs, and many private high schools and adult leagues for over 15 years. His commitment to sportsmanship extended beyond the field as he generously volunteered his time officiating games and tournaments for the Special Olympics, as well as volunteering his time coaching youth hockey, football and baseball an experience that brought him immense joy and satisfaction.
An avid golfer, Jerry could often be found on the green, enjoying the game he loved. He was a passionate fan of all Boston sports, but he held a special place in his heart for the Patriots. His enthusiasm for sports extended beyond the screen; Jerry loved to go to the track and put a little money on the horses, a pastime he shared with his family. His annual trips to Lake George and Saratoga with his parents and brother Joe were cherished traditions filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Jerry's love for his family was evident in the way he embraced his role as an uncle. He was a constant presence at his nieces' and nephews' sports games, cheering them on and celebrating their achievements. His vacations down to Cape Cod with his sister were filled with joy and relaxation, as they made memories that would last a lifetime.
A master at game shows, Jerry could answer an amazing amount of questions on Jeopardy, much to the delight of his family. His competitive yet playful spirit shone through in the wiffle ball and soccer games he played with his nieces and nephew at Lake George, where he was always the life of the party.
Jerry's presence was a gift to those around him. He was the epitome of loving, kind, and funny—a man whose laughter could light up a room and whose generosity knew no bounds. His stories, jokes, and the warmth of his company will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Jerry, we celebrate a life lived with passion, a heart given freely to family and friends, and a legacy of joy that will continue to inspire. Jerome J. Goffredo's memory will be cherished, and his spirit will remain a guiding light for all who had the honor of sharing in his journey.
