Doris Grahn Obituary
Doris M. Grahn of Walpole, MA passed away peacefully on December 21, 2017 at the age of 94. She was born in Medford,
MA on December 12, 1923, the daughter of Ellen M. and Richard J. Costello of Calvert, Newfoundland. She was raised in Calvert, Renews and St. John's Newfoundland and graduated from Memorial University College in St. John's. During WWII, she was employed as a medical secretary at the U.S. Naval base in Argentia, Newfoundland, later moving to the Boston area to become a medical secretary at the Faulkner Hospital. On August 8, 1948, she married Richard E. Grahn. They raised their family in Sharon, MA, traveled the world together and later resided in N. Falmouth, MA and Ocala, FL until his passing. Doris is survived by her son Richard J. Grahn and his wife Sharon of Mattapoisett, MA and their children Rachel Sandrew and her husband Robert of San Diego, CA and Lt. Col. Michael Grahn and his wife Lori of Bristow, VA, her son Douglas E. Grahn and his wife Sonja of Middlesex, Vt, and their son Brendan Grahn of S. Burlington, VT, and her daughter Denise and her family
Nancy, Trevor and Isabella Trottier of North Troy, VT. She is also survived by great grandchildren Emma and Olivia Sandrew and Cara and Simon Grahn, sister in law Gladys Costello and devoted caregiver, Jane Crocker.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 11:30 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood, MA. Interment will be private at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the National Coast Guard Museum Association, Inc., 239R Bank St., New London, CT 06320 and the Historic Ferryland Museum, Baltimore Drive, Ferryland, Newfoundland, Canada, AOA2HO.
