Dale Olmsted Obituary

Dale Glenn Olmsted of Walpole, formerly of Virgil, NY, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the age of 78. Dale was the loving husband of Barbara (Grant) for over 54 years, son of the late William Dale and Marie Olmsted, beloved father of Dale Scott and his wife Lisa Olmsted of Walpole, Karen and her husband Damon Markowski of Franklin, David Olmsted and his husband Nathan Karst of Somerville, and Kristen and her husband Ted Kenney of Wrentham, brother of Terry Olmsted of Clifton Park NY, William Olmsted of Virgil NY, and Kathy Olmsted of Cortland NY, and cherished grampy of 9 grandchildren: Alex, Hayden & Julia Olmsted, Caroline, Dan & Will Markowski, Ashlyn, Bridget and Natalie Kenney.

Dale met his wife on a blind date shortly after moving to Massachusetts as part of his service in the U.S. Army.  Married shortly thereafter, the two moved to Taunton, where Dale began a life-long position as an engineer at Raytheon.  In Taunton, the couple started their family of four and quickly outgrew their home; they moved to Walpole in 1978 and have lived there ever since.

Dale will be fondly remembered by many for his quiet kindness, his quick wit, his comical frugality, his devotion to his family, his appreciation of the constantly changing menagerie of dogs, cats, and pets of all kinds, and his ability to show his love through a “big breakfast” or a dinner to share with people for whom he cared deeply. In his retirement, Dale “The Tractorman” Olmsted put his natural handyman talents to use in his own small engine repair business. He will be sorely missed.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 13, from 4pm to 7pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MSPCA or the Valerie Alice Cook Fund, Liver Transplantation, New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
