Arthur James "Art" Hart, a 40-year resident of Norwood and retiring to Sagamore Beach 18 years ago, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Albany, NY, Art was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Margaret "Peg" Elizabeth (Duggan) Hart, who passed in June 2023, and his son, Michael James Hart, and Art's brother, Bernard Hart, and sister, Elizabeth (Hart) Burns.
Art is survived by his loving children: Theresa and her husband Gerald Memmo of Sagamore Beach, Stephen Arthur Hart of Wrentham/Millinocket Lake, ME, and Brian Hart of Sagamore Beach. A proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, Art served as a Signalman aboard the USS Leyte and USS Wasp aircraft carriers. Following his military service, he built a successful 40-year career with McGraw Hill Publishing, rising to manage their Boston office.
Art and Peg were devoted parishioners of St. Timothy's Church for 40 years, where they raised their family and fostered strong community ties. They instilled in their children a deep love of nature, enjoying countless camping trips to New Hampshire and Maine, and outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing.
In retirement, Art embraced his passion for the outdoors, becoming an active leader in the Appalachian Mountain Club's Cape Cod division. He organized numerous hikes and paddling trips, sharing his love for nature with others. He and Peg also enjoyed annual trips to Maine with close friends.
Art's legacy is one of family, faith, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
